Poster calling to join the British Army, issued by the British Mandate Government. The poster, featuring a woman holding a baby on the background of a Swastika, was designed by Gabriel Shamir who served in the British Combat Engineering Forces.
When WW II broke out and throughout the war, many of the Jewish Yishuv in Eretz Israel volunteered to the British Army to fight against the German enemy. Late in 1939 the National Institutes of the Jewish Yishuv announced an operation to recruit volunteers to the British Army. 40,000 young people presented themselves. At first the British were reluctant to recruit Jews, but with time, as the German threat increased, the British accepted more Jewish volunteers. In 1944 the Jewish Brigade was founded. 43X54.5 cm. Good condition. Tear at lower part and tears to corners. Adhesive tape at borders.
