Tokens – Jewish Stores and Merchants in Tasmania and London

Thirteen tokens, minted for use by Jewish stores and merchants in Tasmania and London. Second half of the 19th cent. 1-5. Five tokens issued by I. Friedman, a money lender in Tasmania, 1857. Diameter of four:33 mm, one token: diameter 29 mm. 6-7. Two tokens issued by Lewis Abrhams, a merchant of fabrics and sewing accessories. Tasmania, 1855. Diameter: 34 mm. 8-10. Three tokens issued by R. Josephs, New-Town Toll Gate in Tasmania, 1855. Diameter: 33 mm. 11. Token issued by John Ashby, stock broker in Bartholomew Lane. London [ca. 1820]. On one side appears a bull with the head of banker Nathan Meir Rothschild and the inscription ”John Ashby Stock Broker no. 3, Bartholomew Lane Bank". On the reverse appear the office hours and an animal with the head of the banker Moses Macatta. Diameter: 35 mm. 12. A one penny token, issued by Lipman Levy, shoes and boots manufacturer in New-Zealand. Diameter: 35 mm. 13. Token issued by Louis Silberger, merchant of tobacco and cigars in London. Diameter: 23 mm.
