Medal Presented to Mordechai Vanunu – Sign of Appreciation for his work in the Nuclear Plant in Dimona
An official medal on behalf of the "Israeli Committee for Atomic Energy, The Negev Nuclear Research Center / a sign of appreciation for your five years of work in the NRC".
Engraved on the medal is the name of its recipient, "Mordechai Vanunu". The medal was presented to Vanunu in 1981, as a sign of appreciation for his work in the nuclear power plant as a radiation inspector.
Mordechai Vanunu (born in 1954), "Atom spy" – managed to smuggle a camera into the nuclear power plant in Dimona and delivered the photographs and data on Israel's nuclear ability to a British journslist, which enabled experts to determine that Israel owns a large number of nuclear bombs. Vanunu was kidnapped from London and brought to Israel, judged, convicted of treason and severe spying, and sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment.

Provenance: Vanunu gave the medal to his friend, a man who belongs to the Church of England in Jerusalem.
