Rabbi Herzog – Draft of Letter Regarding Observance of the Sabbath

A draft of a letter handwritten by R' Isaac Halevi Herzog, [1950s].
A draft of a long handwritten letter about the importance of observing the Sabbath and the Jewish days of rest in the State of Israel. The letter contains harsh reactions to the "Law of Working and Rest Hours" (1951) and the legal system in general which disregards the Torah of Israel. Amongst the statements in the letter: "what defines the 'day of rest', how flexible is this word, what does it guarantee?..."; and further in the letter: " if the Jewish people in Israel and around the world would have been asked…they would definitely object to the shameful attitude towards the Torah…". The draft of this letter is incomplete: one leaf is missing at the beginning. Leaves are not numbered; it is possible that a leaf is also missing in the middle. [11] pp, 33 cm. Good condition.
