Interesting letters about the cancellation of Martial Law, 1949.
1. David Ben-Gurion, a typewritten letter, addresses to Major-General Elimelech Avner. March 29, 1949. "Further to the report which you submitted yesterday verbally I appointed a committee of three to investigate matters and to suggest: 1. whether it is time to cancel martial law and in which areas ".
2. Reply by Major-General Avner on behalf of the "committee investigating the future of martial law", April 3, 1949. Signed.
3. "Report issued by the committee for investigating martial law and its future", May 1949. A 13 pages detailed report, including the conclusions regarding martial law. Copy of a typewritten document. Major General Elimelech Avner was the commander of Tel-Aviv and the South during the 1930s. He was awarded a rank of Major General when IDF was established and was appointed as the Military Governor. Martial law was imposed in 1948 on Arab villages and Arab citizens in the State of Israel areas, and was cancelled in 1966. Fair-good condition. Tears and stains.
