Golda Meir - Early Handwritten Postcards - USA, 1914-1918
Golda Meir (Mabovitch), two autographed, handwritten postcards, sent to her childhood friend Regina Hamburger. USA, 1914 and 1918. English. Personal postcards, affectionately signed "Goldie" and "Gogo".
In her 1975 autobiography "My Life," Golda mentions Hamburger as her close friend from their school days in Milwaukee.
The postcards allow a unique glance into the life of the young Golda Meir, the future Prime Minister of Israel. It is interesting to see that already at an early age she was involved in community matters: In the postcard dated 1918 she mentions being very busy, working towards a fund raising event for the local synagogue. In the introduction to ג€My Life,ג€ Golda writes, ג€I have never kept diaries, nor have I ever been a writer of letters.ג€ Such personal postcards are if so a rarity, offering a unique view into the private life of this extraordinary stateswoman.
