Letter of recommendation by Rabbi Shmuel David HaLevi Ungar Av Beit Din of Nitra and the Galilee. (1934). Sent to Rabbi Moshe Blau from Jerusalem, recommending"my dear student¦ Rabbi Natan Herzog¦ who came to study the word of G-D in Jerusalem, may he succeed in all his endeavors because he is a loyal and exalted servant of G-D".
Rabbi Shmuel David Ungar (1886-1945), Otzar HaRabbanim 19492) Rabbi of Trnava and Nitra and Chief Rabbi of Slovakia. Righteous genius who taught Torah to thousands of disciples for 40 years. During the holocaust, Nitra Yeshiva was the last one to close its doors in conquered Europe. After the yeshiva was abandoned, he escaped to the forests where he perished in 1945. He was the father-in-law of the Sanz-Kloisenberg Rebbe, and of Rabbi Michael Dov Weissmandl, active in the rescue of Jews during the holocaust and founder of the Nitra Yeshiva in the US.
