Itzik Manger – Handwritten Letter – London, 1941

Itzik Manger (1901-1969), handwritten letter. London, November 20 1941. Yiddish.
Manger writes in the letter, addressed to a friend who emigrated to the USA: "I am pleased that you live in America and are out of the Romanian hell. The writers of New York are not understood but this does not interest me. I am most worried about my family; who knows if they are alive. The fact that I stopped writing in Yiddish, and the fact that I returned to it, makes me happy. Newspaper owners hate intellectuals as much as a religious person hates pork…" 3pp, 20cm. Good condition, with minor stains, creases and tears at borders.
