Reuven Brainin – Collection of Letters

Collection of letters handwritten by the editor, literary critic and publicist Reuven Brainin (1862-1939). Brainin published in many Hebrew papers from 1888 and onwards; participated in the first Zionist Congress and continued to report in the papers his impressions of following congresses. He emigrated to the USA in 1909 where he founded the weekly publication "HaDror"; many of the letters included in the lot are written on "HaDror" stationery. He later edited the papers "Der Veg" and "HaToren". The letters are mainly in regards to literary matters and subscriptions.
The collection contains 8 handwritten letters, one handwritten postcard (to Aharon Hermoni), part of a postcard with Brainin's portrait (with his handwritten dedication), and a printed souvenir-postcard.
In a letter dated December 1910, Brainin writes to his friend, the poet Ephraim A. Lissitzky, that "The public anticipates the publication of 'HaDror'… this will be absolutely a literary and scientific paper… if it succeeds I shall start a publishing house for Hebrew literature…"
