Annexation of Sh'chunat Montefiore to Tel Aviv – Historic Document
Manuscript, "Summary of memorandum handed to the Tel Aviv Municipality concerning the annexation of Sh'chunat Montefiore". Tel Aviv, early 1950's.
"…The situation in Montefiore is rugged…no sidewalks…large swamps, the boulevards are neglected …".
Sh'chunat Montefiore (formerly "Gananya") was established in 1925 on the site of the "Montefiore Orange Grove" purchased by Moses Montefiore in 1855. Upon its establishment an order was issued to include the neighborhood within the municipal area of Tel Aviv. Some of the inhabitants were against this decision and the annexation never materialized. The neighborhood was finally annexed in 1943, following struggles and disputes reflected in this document. Leaf, 33.2x10cm. Good condition. Some stains and creases.
