Silver dish, used by Rebbe Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, Rebbe Rayatz of Lubavitch, for the apples on his Rosh Hashanah table. Silver. Marked: Birmingham (England) – 1919; maker's mark: HM (Henry Matthews).
Letter of authenticity enclosed (handwritten note, in English), signed in Hebrew by Rebbetzin Chanah Gurary (1899-1991), eldest daughter of Rebbe Rayatz: "I hereby gift... the silver dish my father used on Rosh Hashana to hold the apples. During one of his trips to France shortly after leaving Russia he bought it. He used it for the last time a year before World War II." Letter of authenticity dated 17 December, 1989. Enclosed is a wooden box (the box was handed over alongside the silver dish, but is not mentioned in the letter of authenticity).
