Collection of Medals, Badges, and Documents – British Soldier active in WWII and the Great Arab Revolt – General Service Medal with "Palestine" Clasp

Collection of medals, badges, and personal documents belonging to John Baxter, a soldier in the Scottish Regiment of the British army in the 19303 and 1940s. According to the enclosed documents, John Baxter (army no. 3245097) served from 1935 to 1946. During this period, he was involved in the fighting on three notable fronts, namely the Great Arab Revolt (1936), the Burma campaign (1942), and the battles in Western Europe following the landings at Normandy (1945). The present collection includes six badges and medals with which he was decorated in recognition of his service, along with a set of personal documents: 1-6. Six badges and medals, all with original ceremonial ribbons: • General Service Medal (1918) with the "Palestine" clasp. • 1939-1945 Star, awarded to British and Commonwealth forces for service in the Second World War. • The Burma Star, awarded to British and Commonwealth forces for service in the Burma campaign during World War II. • The France and Germany Star, awarded to British and Commonwealth forces for service on the Western Front during World War II. • The War Medal, awarded to British and Commonwealth forces for service in World War II. • The Defence Medal, also awarded in recognition of service during World War II; awarded also to civilians who contributed to the war effort. Enclosed: Two medal ribbon bar pins – elongated rectangular pins in the colors of the medal ribbons to be worn on informal occasions. 7. Beret with the badge of the Seaforth Highlanders unit. 8-13. Six personal documents: a Certificate of Service, a Soldier's Release Book, and a printed handbill listing campaign stars, clasps and medals awarded by the British army in recognition of service in World War II (sent along with the decorations), and more. Size and condition vary. Beret sewn onto a mesh fabric strap, to which the medals nd pins are also attached; most of the medal ribbons have been attached to one another. Also enclosed: Photograph of a soldier in uniform, with divided postcard back (with notations in English); booklet of hymns and prayers for a military memorial service at Rochester Cathedral (Rochester, England), 1966.
