Knesset HaGedolah, Choshen Mishpat – Izmir, 1734 – First Edition / Knesset HaGedolah, Yoreh De'ah, Part I – Salonika, 1807 – Second Edition – Decorated Bindings with Dedications to the Jewish Library in Oran, Algeria

Two parts from two different editions of the book Knesset HaGedolah, in matching bindings, dedicated to the Jewish library in Oran, Algeria:
• Knesset HaGedolah, Choshen Mishpat, Parts I-II, selected rulings and glosses on the Tur and its commentators and on the Shulchan Aruch, by R. Chaim Benveniste Rabbi of Izmir. Izmir, [1734]. First edition of part II and Mahadura Batra of part I.
The author published only half of his work on Choshen Mishpat (until section 156) in 1660, due to lack of funding. The rest of his work was first published in this book, after his passing, together with the Mahadura Batra of the first part.
• Knesset HaGedolah, Yoreh De'ah – sections 1-68, by R. Chaim Benveniste Rabbi of Izmir. Salonika, [1807]. Second edition.
Both volumes in elegant, gilt-decorated leather bindings. A dedication to the Jewish library in Oran is lettered on front board of each volume, dated 1887.
Signatures and inscriptions.
Choshen Mishpat: [2], 394 leaves. 30 cm. Yoreh De'ah: [1], 312 leaves. 28.5 cm. Condition varies. Stains and wear. Significant worming to leaves and bindings, affecting text. Open tears to title page of Choshen Mishpat and other leaves, affecting text and title border. Gilt-decorated leather bindings, detached and damaged (dedication on one volume partially effaced).
