Omer (1940-1984) – poet, translator, literary critic, editor and publisher, was influenced by the American "Beat Generation" poets. His book "BaDerech" (describing a pornographic relationship between an Israeli young man and a German girl during a boat cruise) was inspired by Jack Kerouac's work "On the Road," and its publication lead to a law suit by the censor claiming that the book included obscene passages published against the law. Omer was sentenced to prison and a fine. During the Six Day War Omer served as a military paramedic, and later joined the "Mazpen" movement. He was one of the first who called for withdrawal from the occupied territories.
